COLD FLOW IMPROVERTM

Bell’s Cold Flow Improver with CFI-1000 Anti-Gel is designed to enhance cold weather performance of diesel fuel. It has been used successfully in the coldest climates for years.

CFI-1000 ANTI-GEL is a very effective anticoagulant designed to prevent gelling of diesel fuels, especially the higher paraffinic, low sulfur diesel, during cold weather operation.

Continuous Use:

  • Prevents wax crystals from
        coagulating into a gel
  • Lowers Cold Filter Plug Point
  • Reduces or eliminates the need for dilution with Kerosene or #1
  • Maintains the fuels BTU value

Moisture Eliminator {without alcohol}: Contains an all petroleum based dispersant that emulsifies water.

    Continuous Use:

  • Eliminates fuel line freeze
  • Prevents fuel filter icing
  • Reduces corrosion due to moisture
  • Reduces water caused by condensation

When added to low sulfur diesel fuel, continuous use of Bell’s CFI during temperatures below 20F will result in easier starting, better economy, less engine wear, reduced downtime and lower fuel costs.

    THE COLD WEATHER PROBLEM
The EPA mandated a 90% reduction in sulfur content from .5% to .05% in diesel fuel. In order to accomplish this, refiners must hydrotreat the stocks to desulfurize the fuel. This process increases the wax or paraffin content.

The higher concentrations of wax in the fuel will cause serious problems in cold weather operations. Bother the Cloud Point and the Cold Filter Plug Point {CFPP} are higher in low sulfur diesel than previously experienced.

As the temperature begins to drop in low sulfur fuels, the wax crystals form and the fuel becomes thicker and gradually gels until it finally clogs the filter.

In some parts of the country, it has been a practice to blend #2 diesel with #1 or Kerosene. Blending fuel has proven to be one way of lowering the CFPP. However, the disadvantages of blending are:

  • Increased Cost: Kerosene or #1 diesel will cost approximately 7 cents
        per gallon more.
  • Reduced Mileage: For every 10% of blended kerosene or #1 diesel,
there is a 1% loss in power, performance and mileage. For example:
If you are using a 70/30 blend; you will have a 3% loss in mileage.
  • Increased Wear: Kerosene and #1 diesel are very dry fuels. Sulfur was a
lubricating agent and there are no lubricating qualities associated with
kerosene or #1. Therefore, it will cause excessive wear on internal engine
parts. The higher the concentration of kerosene or #1, the faster the
corrosive wear will occur on injectors, injection plungers, injector pumps,
valves, cylinder liners and other top cylinder areas.

    THE COLD WEATHER SOLUTION
Bell Additive’s Cold Flow Improver with CFI-1000 Anti-Gel is extremely effective in both low and high sulfur diesel. It slows down the rated at which the wax crystals form large masses of Gel. By keeping the gelling down to a minimum, the fuel continues to flow at lower temperatures. Bell’s CFI will condition your diesel fuel for much less than you can buy a blend.

    WHAT ABOUT WATER?
All diesel fuel contains water when it is delivered. Moisture also collects in supply tanks by condensation when there is a 7 degree change in temperature. Water present in the fuel or storage tank freezes at 32F. Bell’s CFI contains a moisture eliminator {non alcohol emulsifier} that harmlessly removes the water, preventing fuel line freeze and icing of the fuel. To eliminate water, it is best to begin using Bell’s CFI or DEE-ZOL for 2 months before cold weather begins. Remember: Using a deemulsifier in diesel fuel means that water will be forced to the bottom of the tank and causes microbe growth, tank deterioration and EPA approved waste-water disposal.

TREAT RATIOS IN MOST #2 DIESEL FUELS

  • 1 oz. CFI treats 40 gal. diesel, reduces CFPP by 10F.
  • 1 gal. treats 5120 gal. diesel
  • 1 oz. CFI treats 25 gal. diesel, reduces CFPP by 15F.
  • 1 gal. treats 3200 gal. diesel
  • 1 oz. CFI treats 15 gal. diesel, reduces CFPP by 20F.
  • 1 gal. treats 1920 gal. diesel
  • 1 oz. CFI treats 8 gal. diesel, reduces CFPP by 30F.
  • 1 gal. treats 1024 gal. diesel
  • 1 oz. CFI treats 2 gal. diesel, reduces CFPP by 40F.
  • 1 gal. treats 256 gal. diesel

NOTE: There are many variations in quality of diesel fuel from one refiner to the next. Some diesel fuel is highly resistant to cold flow improvers. It is recommended that you find a reputable supplier with consistant quality and additize with one of the Bell diesel fuel winterizing products.
